E5-5 = The ink cartridges are not installed or a non-supported ink cartridge is installed, or the ink cartridges are not installed properly. see this http://slayo.com/error-4-or-no-ink-in-printer-canon-mp145.html

I found problem like this, not all resetting methode work fine. Why? because the printer circuit is damaged. Resetting only work for normal printer not in electronic circuit damaged condition. Please check your printer electronic circuit.

Following a paper jam in my 26 month old Canon Pixma MP810, which definitely left no paper etc behind in the machine I had an error message saying paper jam and showing a green and a yellow light. This stopped the scanner working too.
I tried following the instructions for resetting a Canon Pixma MP810 but without success.
I had to pay to have a technician take the printer to bits and manually reset the sensor lever inside the all-in-one, then put it all back together – took about an hour.

    Thanks for the instructions,

The annoying ink reill problem was solved the first attempt.

I inserted new toner cartrigdes for the blue and magenta toners. The light didn’t light up once they were clicked in. I returned the toners to the store exchanging them for 2 new toners. These also are not lighting up when clicked in, and the printer says they’re not recognized. I didn’t touch the metal portion on either the toners or the printer so there was no interference with the current. I turned the printer on and off a couple of times to re-set it and it still doesn’t recognize the new toners. What else can I do to get the printer to acknowledge that two new toners are in place? I had no problem when I replaced the black toner. Thanks

I’ve refilled the cartridges from my MP140, when i’ve put them in the printer. He gave E5 error and on screen he sayed that the cartridges were not recongized. I’vce tried the reset procedure above, but no change.

  20. Admin - August 26th, 2009 at 04:06

maybe your cartridge is damaged, E5 message it means there is no cartridge in your printer.

  21. Christof - August 26th, 2009 at 04:42

    Maybe printer or maybe cartridges?

  22. ken - August 29th, 2009 at 15:25

I have a canon MP460 it wont take the paper in properly it will only go in on the right side it is saying ‘paper is jamed clear the paper and press ok’ have done this it does not help and have tried to reset also.

  23. Admin - August 29th, 2009 at 15:35

You don’t need to reset it. According to me, maybe there is a thing or small thing inside your printer. I have got this error E2, I found small thing inside of the printer that stop paper. in the other case, a part of the printer for controlling paper is damaged.

  27. bane - September 28th, 2009 at 11:53

    I have mp210 model and i keep getting E5.
Tried all methods that i could find on the web but non of them helped me.
I even change the cartridge with an old one i have and still im getting E5!!! message. The old cartridge worked just fine before.

  28. Data Doctor - October 2nd, 2009 at 20:07

I thought your post is amusing margi – try putting some paper in – does it still say its jammed. I found out that some papers are too slick for a canon – the wheels don’t grab the paper properly. Trying a heavier or rougher paper may help (like inkjet paper). Resetting the printer as described above should solve that if there is really nothing jammed in it. Otherwise it could be a broken gear – did you rip paper out of it to try to clear a jam?

  29. tracy - October 6th, 2009 at 12:42

I have a MP470 just had my ink cartridges refilled is there a way to reset ink levels so that they don’t say low anymore? Thanks can you send me the answer to my email?

  31. Admin - October 15th, 2009 at 17:02

No, there is no way to reset ink level for the new canon cartridges, It has a smart chip that always monitor the ink level.

  32. Beth - October 16th, 2009 at 10:21

Hey, I too am having trouble with my MP470. I keep getting an error message saying Paper Out Put Jam. I’m certain that there is no paper stuck inside. I just replaced the print cartridges, do you think this could have something to do with it?

  33. Admin - October 16th, 2009 at 17:01

something or small sparts inside your printer, or a part broken in the paper tray

  34. Bill - October 25th, 2009 at 22:49

I purchased some aftermarket MP140 cartridges and I am getting the E5 message of non-recognized cartridge. I have used the same company in the past and it was working fine then stopped in the middle of a print job and won’t recognize the cartridges I was using before it stopped. What is going on here? So darned frustrating with the canon printer. I like the quality but too hard to use inks since Canon brands are so darned expensive and last such a short period of time. I tried the reset methods listed and no luck. Not very clear on how to hold, let go, tap 4 times…just rub your stomach and pat your head at the same time…works just as well.

  35. Bill - October 25th, 2009 at 22:53

Anyone need a cheap MP140 and Pixma 3000 and Pixma 4000? I am tired of this ink game with Canon and am going to try HP or some other brand. Couldn’t be worse. I love how Canon prints but the ink issue is crazy/silly. Serious about selling them cheap. Woodland California.

  36. kathy - November 24th, 2009 at 10:10

Help! I love my canon mp600 for it’s awesome quality for my photos but I am tired of the paper feed issues. I used to put the paper on the top feed until that no longer would work, then I tried the tray which worked for a while and now that doesn’t work. It is feeding the paper in sideways. Is this a problem with canons? If you have suggestions to try I would appreciate help, Even if you could recommend a good picture quality printer> kathy
