I/O Buffering Feature Introduction and Usage with Data Spooling

Thursday 31 January 2008 @ 3:42 pm

I/O buffering is a feature that was first available in the HP LaserJet 4/4M Plus family printer. This feature allows a quicker “back to user” time by streamlining the data throughput.

While the actual print speed is reduced by using any type of spooling, I/O buffering is a way for the printer to accept more data from the active data stream than it can process at a given moment. Buffering is also a way to accept data from non-active data channels.

PCL vs Postscript

PCL vs Postscript

PCL
Printer Control Language or PCL is a common printing language used widely by many different printer manufacturers. PCL is supported by many different Operating Systems which allows for the same printer to work in many different environments. PCL is device dependent. This means that the drivers for this language utilize the printer hardware for creating some of the printed data, usually graphics data such as fill areas, underlines or fonts. This allows the computer to process the print job quickly and efficiently. The printer is then responsible to complete the creation and processing of page data. Individual printers may perform these tasks differently giving you a slightly different output.

HP Color LaserJet 1500 and 2500 Series Printers - Printing Light Pages

Thursday 31 January 2008 @ 3:00 pm

HP Color LaserJet 1500 and 2500 Series Printers -All of the pages of a print job have faded or light print that typically occurs down the left side of the page; however, it may appear less frequently down the right-hand side of the page. This occurs when printing a job from an application, printing one of the internal test pages (demo page, configuration page, half self-test page, or an engine test), or when printing a print driver test page. This issue may be caused by several factors:

The left-hand side of each page will appear as either light or faded print out of the box. This is typically caused by timing mechanism misalignment, or by a broken black bushing on the top-left-hand side of the carousel assembly. The left-hand side of each page will appear as either light or faded print. Continue Reading »
